ABOUT WINPRINTSCREEN

WinPrintScreen is a cool, small utility that brings the classic 'print screen' function back to Windows.

Every PC keyboard has a 'PrtScrn' key. Press it, and nothing happens! Back in the good old days of MS-DOS, before Windows existed, pressing PrtScrn made the computer generate a print-out of whatever was on the screen. Sadly, this handy feature didn't make the transition to Windows. Now, thanks to WinPrintScreen, it's back.

Instead of pressing PrtScrn, WinPrintScreen adds an icon to the System Tray. Click it, and the current screen is sent to the default printer. WinPrintScreen also stores a BMP and JPG version of the screen on the root directory of the C: drive. See the enclosed documentation file for more information.

INSTALLING WINPRINTSCREEN

Here's how to install WinPrintScreen and set it up for use.

  1. Download the WPS1.ZIP file using the hyperlink at the top of this page. Save the download in a folder that you will remember and know how to find.

  2. Open the folder you saved the WPS1.ZIP file in.

  3. Use your favorite unzipping utility to extract the ZIP file contents. Put the ZIP file contents into any folder on your hard drive.

  4. Create a shortcut to the WinPrintScreen.exe file (right-click the WinPrintScreen.exe file, then click Create Shortcut).

  5. If you want WinPrintScreen to load when you start Windows, drag+drop the shortcut into your Startup folder.

  6. If you want WinPrintScreen to load manually, move it to your Desktop (right-click the shortcut, click Cut, then right-click your Desktop, and click Paste).

  7. WinPrintScreen is now installed and ready for use.

USING WINPRINTSCREEN

WinPrintScreen exists as an icon to the System Tray. Click the icon, and the current screen is sent to the default printer. Right-click the icon to unload WinPrintScreen. Note that WinPrintScreen also stores BMP and JPG versions of the screen on root directory of the C: drive. These can be opened by all graphics programs.
